Admissions
Admission to study law at the Aristotle University College of Law is a competitive process which gives students an opportunity to further advance their life and career and influence the progress of society.

Generally, students are admitted to the J.D. program for attendance of the Fall, Spring and Summer semesters. Off-track admission is occasional permitted. Students admitted off-track will enroll in the Introduction to Law course and then be placed in the regular scheduling and program of courses as appropriate.

Admission criteria to the J.D. program at the Aristotle University College of Law which is intended to qualify an individual to sit for the California State Bar Exam are consistent with Rule II of the California State Bar Rules Regulating Admission to Practice Law in California, entitled Admission to Practice Law: General Requirements, and Rule VII of the California State Bar Rules Regulating Admission to Practice Law in California, entitled Educational Requirements; both Rules are in accord with State of California Business and Professions Code § 6060 and rules and guidelines as promulgated by the Committee of Bar Examiners and State Bar of California. Those Rules include the following:

RULE II.   Admission to Practice Law:   General Requirements Section 1.
To be eligible for certification by the Committee to the Supreme Court of California to practice law in California, all applicants must meet the following requirements:
  1. Be of the age of at least 18 years;
  2. Be of good moral character pursuant to the provisions of Rule X;
  3. Complete the general education requirements pursuant to the provisions of Rule VII prior to commencing the study of law;
  4. Complete the legal education requirements prescribed in Rule VII prior to taking the California Bar Examination;
RULE VII.   Educational Requirements Section 1.   General Education
  1. Before beginning the study of law, every general applicant shall have either:
    1. Completed at least two years of college work, which college work shall be not less than one-half of the collegiate work acceptable for a bachelor's degree granted upon the basis of a four-year period of study by a college or university approved by the Committee; or
    2. Attained in apparent intellectual ability the equivalent of at least two years of college determined by taking any examinations in such subject matters and achieving the scores thereon as are prescribed by the Committee.
  2. To have completed two years of college work within the meaning of Section 1(a)(1) above, an applicant shall have earned at least 60 semester, or 90 quarter, units of college credit with an average grade at least equal to that required for graduation.
  3. A college or university approved by the Committee referred to in Section 1(a)(1) above shall be a college or university that has degree granting authority from the state in which it resides.
  4. A person who has not completed two years of college work as defined in Section 1(a)(1) above must pass the required examinations as required by Section 1(a)(2) above, prior to beginning the study of law, unless for good cause the Committee permits later examination.
  5. Certification that an applicant has met the general education requirement specified in Section 1 shall be provided by the law school the applicant is attending or from which he or she graduated upon request by the Committee.
The Admissions Committee of the Aristotle University College of Law is responsible for the final decision as to the admission of any applicant to any program at the Aristotle University College of Law. The Admission Committee is made up of the Dean, and Members of the Board of Trustees, Members of the Faculty, and members of the neighboring communities of San Diego.

Criteria for admission to any of the J.D. degree granting programs the Aristotle University College of Law shall include the following:
  1. Prior successful completion of a minimum of sixty (60) transferable semester units, or 90 transferable quarter units, towards a degree at a recognized college or university; or baccalaureate degree.
  2. At least ninety percent (90%) of all college pre-law preparatory units presented for admission to the Aristotle University College of Law must be in academic courses.
  3. The applicant must have maintained an overall grade point average of at least 2.0; or equivalent;
  4. No pre-law college credit may have been given for prior experiential learning.
  5. Be of good moral character;
  6. Have a completed and submitted an Application for Admission;
  7. Have completed and submitted a Personal Statement;
  8. Have completed prior to starting the study of law, or intend to complete within one year of commencing the study of law, the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) (This requirement does not apply to Executive J.D. students).
  9. Have completed a Personal Interview; suggested, not mandatory.
  10. Maturity.
  11. Apparent Ability to Study Law.
  12. Consideration of Special Circumstances.
